Kitchen Remodel Disaster Regrets; Design Don’ts, Trends to Avoid & More in Saratoga, CA

If you are like most people a kitchen remodel is not something that you will do multiple times while you are living in your home. So the pressure is on to get it right the first time! No one wants to take the time and money to remodel their kitchen and still not absolutely love it. At Future Vision Remodeling we want you to be happy with the changes that we help you make to your home so we have put together some of the most common mistakes that people make when remodeling their kitchen so that you can learn from their errors.

Size of Finished Remodeled Kitchen

Getting the spacing right in your kitchen can be tricky! If you make it too small you will be walking all over each other but if you make it too big you are just wasting space that could have been used for other things.
If your kitchen is larger you will still want to create a compact step-saving area where the core of your work will be done. No one wants to have to walk a mile just to make a meal. You also do not want dead space in your kitchen. Make sure that you carefully look at your kitchen design to avoid dead space.

Avoid a Crowded Kitchen

On the opposite end of dead space is a kitchen that is too crowded. Homeowners frequently will not make the space between their countertops and their island wide enough to comfortably pass through. You will want to make sure that the spaces between islands, walls, and appliances are 42 and 48 inches for best results. You may want to not put two key features, like a sink and your stove top, right across from each other. This will make it so that you can have two cooks in your kitchen without having them on top of each other the whole time they are cooking.
One thing that many people forget is that all of the cupboards and appliances in their kitchen will need to open. Fridges and ovens both need a wide clearance to be able to open fully. Plan door openings carefully so that you do not end up with a kitchen that feels too cramped.

Kitchen Island Regrets

Most kitchen remodels include an island of some sort. Whether you are adding an island for the first time or revamping your current island you will want to take the time to think your island through. One common mistake with islands is that people want to make them too large. Nothing is worse than having to walk around a 10 foot island all day long. An island that is too wide is also problematic. If your island is more than about 4 feet deep it is awfully hard to reach the middle of the island. Some people choose to do two islands instead of one.

Kitchen Storage Mistakes

You will also want to make sure that you carefully think about how much storage you will need in your kitchen and plan accordingly. So many people think that they are putting enough storage in and then when they get it all done they realize they have tons of things that need a home and no more storage space for the items. When you are looking through storage options for your kitchen there are tons of options that you can select from. Make your decision thoughtfully so you can fit everything you need into your kitchen once your remodel is done.
